Joe Nolan takes Prine's pen and Springsteen's gravelled voice through 'Riverbends.' It's the story of two people looking back on their younger days, mixed with pain, tenderness and everything in between. Nolan's river expresses the vast love the couple shared for each other. Eventually returning to that riverbank, the separated couple now see the truth reflecting back at them in the water.

This song was recorded on Nolan's 4 track cassette tape recorder in the Sturgeon County area in Alberta, Canada. It follows his Canadian Folk Music Award nominated album "Drifters" (2020).

I go out there and I hear her name, echo in the chambers of my brain

Ruthie came over and knocked on my door
The thunder did rattle and the rain it did pour
I grabbed her closer than ever before
And we followed the way that river did roar

I lost myself in there for a while, living in the city of denial
Caught up on the things that I could not change, strung out and high on everything
Maybe I drink to free up my mind, the overwhelming emotional kind
Of heart that feels too much inside, wounded and lost like an orphan child

The greatest kind of love to ever exist, oh I wanna believe in this
Kind of love that just wants to give and unconditionally live
It’s so beautiful, it could make one cry, the universe and stars fell right from her eyes
Those tears of joy and tears of pain, tears like rivers made out of rain

Well I almost lost it last night when I heard
The telephone ringing and the voice it was hers
She said it’s been one long lost verse
Of whispers and heartache and lovers and words
